The GI Spotlight: How Gut Health Affects Hormones & Weight
Why Gut Health Matters More Than You Think
At Balanced Body and Wellness, we take a holistic approach to healing—because your gut does so much more than just digest food. It’s closely connected to hormone balance, mood, and even weight management. Through advanced functional testing, we dig deep to uncover the root of gut issues like bloating, irregular digestion, and inflammation. The result? Personalized support that helps you feel better, balance your hormones, and make weight loss more achievable.
At Balanced Body and Wellness, we believe in a holistic approach to health, recognizing that your gut health is not only crucial for digestion but also plays a significant role in overall well-being. Your gut is often referred to as your "second brain" because of its connection to hormone regulation, mood, and weight management.
The GI Spotlight: Functional Testing for Gut Health
Many people experience gut issues but aren’t aware that these problems can affect much more than just digestion. At Balanced Body and Wellness, we offer Functional Testing (functional GI Molecular stool analysis by qPCR). This test provides an in-depth look into the health of the gut microbiome. It helps us get to the root of your gut issues. Our digestive health support program is designed to identify imbalances, inflammation, or pathogens that might be affecting your gut health and, consequently, your overall wellness.
The Link Between Gut Health, Hormones, and Weight Loss
Did you know that your gut health can influence hormone levels, including those related to medically supervised weight loss? Hormonal imbalances—such as thyroid dysfunction or insulin resistance—can often be linked to an unhealthy gut. By addressing gut issues, we can help restore balance through our women and men hormone optimization services, supporting healthier weight management and improved energy.
Why Focus on Gut Health?
At our recent open house, many attendees mentioned struggling with gut-related concerns such as bloating, constipation, discomfort, and irregular digestion. These issues can impact more than just your physical comfort—they can also affect your mental health, energy, and ability to lose weight.
By focusing on gut health, we aim to empower you with the knowledge and tools to take control of your health, improve your digestion, and support your body's natural functions—including hormone balance and medically supervised weight loss.
The Great Open House
This past Saturday, March 29, I hosted an open house for Balanced Body and Wellness, and what an incredible day it was! Surrounded by my husband and daughter, I felt immense joy and anticipation as we welcomed guests to our new clinic.
Leading up to the event, I was a bundle of nerves. I had prepared about 100 gift bags filled with goodies, planned engaging games, and laid out delicious snacks. But as the day approached, the weather forecast showed a daunting 60% chance of rain. To top it off, our step-and-repeat banner wouldn’t stand up as planned, and we struggled to set up our tent. When the first guest arrived and we weren’t entirely ready, I felt overwhelmed.
But then, something magical happened. My family rallied around me, and my friends stepped in to help with every task. As the doors opened, people began to arrive, and the atmosphere transformed. Laughter filled the air as guests took photos, sampled juices, and joined in the challenges over at Transformation Zone Gym. It was everything I had hoped for and more.
In total, around 60 people showed up—slowly but surely, they came. Prizes were won, the spin-the-wheel game was a hit, and we served both healthy snacks and sweet treats. To my surprise, many guests arrived with gifts, including beautiful flowers and thoughtful surprises from long-time friends and those who traveled from out of state. Their support and belief in my vision meant the world to me.
As the day wrapped up, we celebrated with some crawfish from my favorite place “Texas Crawfish Company” , and I found myself out like a light on the couch, exhausted but elated.
One key takeaway from the open house was the common theme among our guests: many were dealing with gut health issues. While weight loss and overall health are important, “my gut” was the focus of the day. As I sit at my desk, preparing for April, I’m inspired to emphasize the significance of gut health in my practice. I want to help my clients understand how to assess their gut health and embark on the journey to healing.
At Balanced Body and Wellness, we are committed to ensuring that everyone can achieve a balanced body—starting from the inside out. Here’s to a month dedicated to understanding and nurturing our gut health! Thank you to everyone who made our open house a day to remember.

The Beginning: My Journey to Balanced Body and Wellness
The Beginning: My Journey to Balanced Body and Wellness
As I sit at my desk in my new clinic, I am filled with joy and gratitude. This is the beginning of a dream I’ve held close to my heart for many years—a dream that is finally coming to fruition. By the grace of God, I am here, ready to provide the kind of care I longed for during my own journey with morbid obesity.
For most of my adult life, I struggled with my weight, constantly losing and regaining without understanding why. I lacked the support I needed and often felt lost in my efforts.
My journey long before becoming a nurse, but by the time I became a registered nurse, I had already undergone gastric bypass surgery with little guidance. At 21 years old, desperate for change after my father's unexpected passing, I took the leap, but it was a tumultuous road. I quickly lost 100 pounds, but my relationship with food remained complicated, often leading to unhealthy habits that resulted in regaining the weight.
Life became challenging, and I realized that I wanted more than just to survive—I wanted to thrive.
Today, as a nurse practitioner with over a decade of experience in palliative care and hospice, I have shifted my focus from helping people die well to helping them live well. The last few years have been transformative as I embraced my passion for medically supervised weight loss, hormone replacement therapy, and gut health. At Balanced Body and Wellness, I am not just treating patients; I am building a family. Each person that I see virtually or who walks through the door becomes someone I invest in, providing the accountability and support I wished I had.
Together, we are reversing diabetes, eradicating hypertension, and conquering heart disease. Witnessing their transformations brings me immense joy and fulfillment.
I am thankful for the opportunity to give others what I was not able to receive. This is just the beginning of my journey, and I am excited to share it with you. Here’s to new beginnings, to hope, and to a healthier future for us all.
