GLP-1 Medications & Treatments

  • GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) peptides are medications that help regulate appetite and food intake. They can aid in weight loss by promoting feelings of fullness and reducing hunger.

  • Popular GLP-1 medications like Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are administered as once-weekly injections that you can easily give yourself at home. Using a very small needle, the injection is made into subcutaneous fat—typically in areas like your abdomen, the back of your arm, or your thigh. Your dosage will be carefully adjusted based on your tolerance.

  • Most patients may experience initial side effects as their bodies adjust to the medication. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, and constipation. Fortunately, nausea can be managed with prescribed ondansetron (Zofran), and many side effects tend to improve over time.

  • These peptides are not suitable for patients who:

    • Are pregnant or breastfeeding

    • Have a history of medullary thyroid cancer

    • Have a history of thyroid cancer

    • Have Type 1 diabetes

    • Have endocrine neoplasia syndrome

    • Have a history of chronic pancreatitis

  • Peptide therapy involves the use of specific peptides to promote healing, enhance performance, and optimize various bodily functions, including hormone production and muscle recovery.

  • Hormone optimization focuses on balancing hormone levels in the body to improve overall health, energy levels, mood, and well-being. This may involve the use of bioidentical hormones, lifestyle changes, and targeted therapies.

  • Gut health refers to the balance of microorganisms in the digestive tract, which is crucial for nutrient absorption, immune function, and overall well-being. Improving gut health can lead to better digestion, reduced inflammation, and enhanced mood.
